DIAGNOdent - At Hires Dental Care, we are excited to introduce a new diagnostic tool that will help us detect cavities on the surfaces of teeth that previously were undetectable.
Diagnodent helps detect cavities at the earliest possible stage, so much more conservative treatment can be performed. This instrument allows us to be more accurate, with less guesswork.
Measurements from the Diagnodent will help us determine if certain suspected areas on the teeth are decay and treat them with conservative fillings, or to monitor them over time and treat them with preventive therapies like fluoride and/or sealants.

Laser dentistry- Dentistry has a new weapon in the fight against tooth decay. This “light
saber” of dentistry is the Erbium laser. The dental laser is the latest in
modern innovations for the 21st Century. The Erbium lasers have proven
safe and effective for the removal of tooth decay and cavity preparation in
addition to many soft tissue and hard tissue surgical procedures. The
FDA has approved the Erbium laser for marketing in the United States as
of 1997. The Erbium laser offers an alternative to the high-speed drill,
eliminating fear and patient discomfort, for both adults and children. The
laser is revolutionizing dental care-just as it has in so many other areas of
our lives. With the Erbium laser, the dentist can provide a new method of
dental care, which can often be performed, in many cases, without local
anesthesia.

Most patients find laser procedures remarkably comfortable. So
comfortable, in fact, that in many cases, no anesthesia is required.
Patients who have experienced laser treatment for cavity preparation
report feeling nothing more than the touch of the hand-piece and an
occasional slight sensation of warmth. Teenage patients report a “tingling”
feeling. Unfortunately, conventional drilling must still be used for the
removal of previous metal restorations.

K7 - Measuring and recording mandibular function and masticatory muscle status adds invaluable information to the diagnostic process and is critical to neuromuscular dentistry. Objective information about TM joint status further adds to the clinician's data.
The K7 Evaluation System provides the dental clinician or researcher with threefordisplaying and storing objective data on physiologic and anatomical status and function:,electromyographyjoint sonography. This objective data enhances the doctor's diagnostic and treatment considerations with information not previously available.

Cosmetic Dentistry

You can rest assured that your crown, veneers and dentures will be crafted in North America, in most cases they are crafted locally!

Teeth Whitening- Whether you are self-conscious because you have yellowed teeth, or if you just want to look your best, teeth whitening is a sure way to brighten your smile and gain increased confidence in your appearance.

Some over-the-counter products may wear down the enamel of the teeth if used too frequently. It is for this reason that Dr. Hires recommends teeth whitening treatment under the supervision of a cosmetic dentist. The most effective techniques available today are in-office and take home kits with custom-fit trays. Give us a call today so we can discuss which method will best suit your needs.

Veneers- Many people desire a brighter, more attractive smile, but have chipped, stained, discolored, unevenly spaced, or even slightly crooked front teeth. Often, porcelain veneers or laminates can provide these patients with a completely new looking smile. We provide porcelain veneers in Toledo, Ohio.

Porcelain veneers are thin shells of ceramic that bond directly to the front surfaces of the teeth. They are an ideal choice for improving your smile and have become increasingly popular due to their simplicity and versatility.Porcelain veneers are among the most conservative of esthetic dental restorations, and offer vitality and beauty that is so life-like that people will never doubt that they are your natural teeth. At the same time, porcelain veneers are incredibly strong. When bonded using lasers, they can increase and restore a tooth’s strength. The ultra-thin porcelain veneers are virtually undetectable and highly resistant to coffee, tea, or even cigarette stains.Amazingly, all of this can be accomplished in only two visits.

Placing custom veneers requires a high degree of technical skill as well as attention to cosmetic detail.Dr. Hires places veneers routinely, and designs each case individually to match and enhance characteristics already present in each patient's teeth. We will be glad to help evaluate your specific situation, listen to the exact changes you have in mind, and help you visualize your end results. This may involve reviewing photos of similar case outcomes, or using a computer enhancement program to provide you with several options prior to performing the actual procedure.

Today a great smile is the accepted norm. The shape, color and quality of your smile can create the perception of youth, health and confidence. A great smile can positively influence your professional career and even your personal relationships. When you look in the mirror do you like what you see? If not, you can enhance your smile in as little as two appointments.

Dental Hygiene- At Hires Dental our primary goal is to create and maintain a healthy bright smile for you. We are very proud of our dental hygienists. They are committed to improving not only your dental health, but making sure that the potential issues of having periodontal disease does not affect your over all general health. They are gentle, caring and most of all dedicated to listening to your specific dental needs. We offer complete instructions on home care to insure the removal of bacteria and maintain a healthy mouth, on a daily basis.

Our goal is to -

Decrease the bacteria, debris, unhealthy tissue and allow the body to heal itself you fresher breath and tastetooth surfacesgums so they are not red, swollen, and tender and do not bleed. Healthy gumsdo not bleed.periodontal diseaseof all – help you maintain healthy gums which will mean a healthier you

Periodontal (gum) disease- Did you know that the greatest cause of adult tooth loss is gum disease? It is a chronic bacterial infection that affects both the gums and the bone supporting your teeth. It can not only cause loss of teeth but, if left untreated, can contribute to serious health problems. Such as stokes, heart attacks, diabetes, Alzheimer's and low birth weight babies.
If caught early, we can help you reverse the damage. If caught late, we can use one of many effective procedures to restore your mouth to a healthy, beautiful state. Let us help you keep your teeth and gums strong and disease-free with regular dental health check ups.

Non-Surgical Periodontal Treatments Periodontal health is often accomplished through non-surgical treatment including scaling and root planning - a careful cleaning of the root surfaces to remove plaque and calculus (tarter) below the gum line and to smooth the roots and remove bacterial toxins to allow for healthy reattachment of the gums. As an adjunctive therapy to scaling and root planning, antibiotics are applied directly into the infected pocket to ensure that all the infection causing bacteria are eradicated.

After scaling and root planning, many patients do not require any further active treatment. However, the majority of patients will require ongoing maintenance therapy to sustain health. Non-surgical therapy does have its limitations. When it does not achieve periodontal health, surgery may be indicated to restore periodontal anatomy damaged by periodontal disease and facilitate oral hygiene practices.

Sealants - Highly effective in preventing decay on the biting surfaces of your chewing teeth, dental sealants are a simple procedure in which a tooth-colored acrylic "coating" is painted onto the surface of the tooth. This effectively "seals" the deep grooves, acting as a barrier and protecting enamel from plaque and acids.
Sealants protect the depressions and grooves of your teeth from food particles and plaque that brushing and flossing can't reach.
Easy to apply, sealants take only a few minutes to seal each tooth. Sealants hold up well under the force of normal chewing and can last several years before a reapplication is needed.
Children and adults can benefit from sealants in the fight against tooth decay.

Tooth Colored (white) fillings- A composite (tooth colored) filling is used to repair a tooth that is affected by decay, cracks, fractures, etc.The decayed or affected portion of the tooth will be removed and then filled with a composite filling.
There are many types of filling materials available, each with their own advantages and disadvantages. and your dentist can discuss the best options for restoring your teeth. Composite fillings are the most widely used today.Because composite fillings are tooth colored, they can be closely matched to the color of existing teeth, and are more aesthetically suited for use in front teeth or the more visible areas of the teeth.
As with most dental restorations, composite fillings are not permanent and may someday have to be replaced. They are very durable, and will last many years, giving you a long lasting, beautiful smile.

Reasons for composite fillings:

Chipped teeth.
Closing space between two teeth.
Cracked or broken teeth.
Decayed teeth.
Worn teeth.

Composite fillings are usually placed in one appointment. While the tooth is numb, your dentist will remove decay as necessary. The space will then be thoroughly cleaned and carefully prepared before the new filling is placed. If the decay was near the nerve of the tooth, a special medication will be applied for added protection. The composite filling will then be precisely placed, shaped, and polished, restoring your tooth to its original shape and function.
It is normal to experience sensitivity to hot and cold when composite fillings are first placed, however this will subside shortly after your tooth acclimates to the new filling.
You will be given care instructions at the conclusion of your treatment.Good oral hygiene practices, eating habits, and regular dental visits will aid in the life of your new fillings.

Root Canal- A “root canal” refers to the removal of the pulp (nerve and vascular tissue) from inside of the tooth in order to save a tooth and eliminate pain. This procedure is used for infected and abscessed teeth, a nerve that has died, and teeth injured or broken in an accident. Pulp tissue can become infected and/or die due to deep decay, injury, or cracks in the tooth. The treatment can usually be completed in one or two office visits. To protect the tooth from fracturing, molars and premolars will almost always require a crown or only after a root canal is completed. More than 95% of root canals are successful. In addition, the entire procedure is virtually pain free.

Crowns and Bridges-Crowns and Bridges are essentially comfortable, life-like and natural looking replacements that cover decayed, broken teeth, severely discolored teeth or cover over an implant. A crown covers one tooth, while a bridge is used to “bridge” a gap created by one or more missing teeth.
Crowns- If your tooth requires more than a filling, Dr. Hires may suggest a crown to strengthen your tooth. A crown restores the original size, shape and function of your tooth by covering the whole tooth with a protective structure. A number of types of crowns are available, including porcelain crown, and your Chicago cosmetic dentist will discuss with you the best option based upon your dental needs.

Reasons to consider a crown:

Do you have teeth that are broken or fractured?
Do any of your teeth need a cosmetic improvement?
Are any of your teeth decayed?
Have any of your tooth fillings been fractured?
Do you have large fillings?
Does your tooth need a root canal?

One of the most popular choices for crowns are the porcelain crowns, which may be shaped and colored to blend with the rest of your teeth, resulting in a naturally beautiful smile. Porcelain crowns, like other dental restorations, are not permanent, and may eventually need to be replaced. However, they are durable and will last for many years ensuring healthy beautiful teeth.
Generally, a crown procedure will be completed in two visits to Hires Dental.
For your first appointment, several detailed molds will be taken of your tooth to ensure that your crown looks as natural as possible. Your molds will be sent to a local dental laboratory where your new custom crown will be custom made to fit your tooth. In the meantime, as your crown is being made, you will wear a temporary crown. Dr. Hires will numb your tooth, remove any decay from the tooth, and prepare it for the crown. The temporary crown will be attached and your bite will be inspected for accuracy.

For your second appointment, your Chicago cosmetic dentist will remove the temporary crown, clean your tooth thoroughly, and attach your new custom made crown, ensuring once again that your bite is correct. By maintaining good oral hygiene and regular visits to Hires Dental, you will protect your new crown.

Bridge- When you have missing teeth Dr. Hires may recommend a dental bridge, which is a fixed or non-removable appliance that replaces missing teeth and thereby restores the natural beauty of your smile. Dr. Hires will discuss with you the options best suited to your dental needs. The most common bridge is porcelain fused to metal; the porcelain bridges have artificial teeth that are created to fill the space of missing teeth and blend with the rest of your teeth. The bridge attaches to the teeth on either side of the empty space, and fills the space with one or more artificial porcelain teeth.
Although dental bridges are durable and will protect and restore your smile to its natural beauty for many years, they are not permanent and may eventually require repair or replacement due to average wear.

Reasons to consider fixed bridge:

Are any of your teeth missing?
Do you want to aesthetically enhance the appearance of your smile?
Do you want to maintain the healthy shape of your face when teeth are removed?
Are any of your teeth moving or shifting out of place?
Has your ability to speak or chew be compromised by your teeth problems?
Do your currently use a partial denture but want something more permanent?

Generally, a fixed bridge may be completed in two or more visits to Hires Dental. At your first visit, the teeth on either side of the space, the “anchoring” teeth are prepared through cleansing and shaping to receive a crown. Once this is complete, highly precise impressions, or molds, are taken in order to manufacture your custom bridge at a North American dental laboratory. Impressions for a temporary bridge will also be taken which you will wear for several weeks until your custom-designed bridge is complete.

During the second appointment, your fixed bridge will be carefully prepared and adjusted to fit your mouth. Dr. Hires may recommend a temporary cement for the bridge initially so that you may allow your teeth and tissue time to adjust to the new bridge and identify any problems before the final appointment where the bridge will be permanently cemented, creating your ideal smile. Finally, you will receive information regarding the maintenance of your fixed bridge, including practices that promote good oral hygiene, and suggested timelines for regular follow-up visits to Hires Dental.

Children's Dentistry
The road to healthy teeth and gums should start early in a child’s life. In addition to establishing a regular brushing routine with your children, it is important they have regular dental checkups twice a year. As a parent, Dr. Hires and his staff understand the difficulties parents face in maintaining children’s dental habits. If your child is 3 years of age or older, we have an established program to ensure that both the parents and children receive the education needed. This includes the use of friendly procedures like no shot laser restorations and training on proper brushing and flossing techniques.
To help ensure the first visit is a positive experience, we begin with a “happy visit” to introduce and allow the child to become familiar with the dental office, staff and instraments used during the cleaning process.
While many dental facilities do not allow parents to accompany their child during appointments, Dr. Hires encourages involvement for an ideal outcome of the dental visit.
